Founded by Adam Hartley in 2016, the business has grown from a one-person operation into a large commercial painting company delivering new construction and refurbishment projects across Queensland.
Today, AJ Hartley Painting primarily works with commercial builders and construction companies, supported by a workforce of 60+ painters, experienced supervisors and project managers, and a dedicated estimating team.
The Story Behind
AJ Hartley Painting
Adam Hartley’s introduction to painting started while he was still at school.
As part of a school-based work experience application, Adam nominated painting as one of three trades he was willing to try. Painting was the trade he was allocated, and he quickly discovered that the work came naturally to him.
He went on to build his experience working for a large commercial painting company based in Brisbane. Adam genuinely enjoyed painting and working within the industry, but he was also ambitious and wanted to create something of his own.
Through his experience in the trade, he developed a clear idea of the standards he wanted his own company to represent, particularly around quality, reliability and the people he employed.
In 2016, AJ Hartley Painting was established.
Built From the Ground Up
The early work focused on residential repaints and new builds for local builders. During this stage, Adam was involved directly in every part of running the company, from painting and client relationships through to tendering and pricing every job himself.
The business was built through hard work, dedication and a genuine passion for painting.
There were challenges along the way, but each stage helped establish the standards and work ethic that continue to shape AJ Hartley Painting today.
As the company grew, the focus moved increasingly towards commercial work.
The Move Into Commercial Painting
Taking the step into commercial projects was a significant milestone for AJ Hartley Painting.
It created opportunities to work with larger builders and construction companies while developing the workforce and operational capability required for more demanding projects.
Strong relationships with clients, builders and other trades helped support that growth. AJ Hartley Painting continued to secure repeat work from builders and strengthen its reputation within the commercial construction sector.
What Adam once managed himself has developed into a broader commercial operation. The company now has a team of experienced estimators focused on pricing projects, supported by experienced supervisors, project managers and a substantial painting workforce.
The growth of AJ Hartley Painting has also created opportunities for people within the business to develop their skills, take on greater responsibility and progress with the company.
